"The thought of having to design my own home gave me much anxiety until we started working with Laura.  She streamlined the process, took the time to understand our needs and handled all of the project management.  All we had to do was approve the designs!

Frequently Asked Questions

  • This project has the potential to overwhelm. Where do I even start?
Build your team! Congratulations, you made it to our FAQ so you're headed in the right direction. Every professional has their own level of expertise and it's this expertise that should put you at ease as you move through the process. We work day in and out with local architects, builders, subs and showrooms. Working with Ivory Stone Interiors gives you access to an abundance of resources as we navigate your project.
  • Why should I use a designer?
We are the glue that holds your project together and we ensure that your vision is being executed from start to finish. Not to mention we help you avoid costly mistakes. Everyone has been there and that is no fun. What is fun....working with a designer and realizing your projects full potential.
  • Can you summarize your process?
Our process starts with a discovery call to determine if we may be a good fit for your project. This is followed by an in person consult either at our studio or onsite where we go over your needs and scope of work. From here we put together a rough budget and estimated design hours. Once the scope of work is honed, we have a Pre-Design Meeting where we ask all the nitty gritty questions and look at all the inspiration photos you've been gathering. The next phase revolves around Space Planning and or Architectural 3-D Drawings, Mood Board Development and a Final Materials Meeting. Once all selections are made, they are put into a Proposal for sign off and we work on Procuring your product whether that be build materials for construction or furniture for a furnishings project. The final phase is project management for construction or an install day for furnishings.
  • How long does the design process take?
This completely depends on the project, specifically in relation to construction. There are new construction projects that can be in the architectural/design phase for years depending on the scope. Renovations are much shorter and we find that the design/planning phase is approximately 3-4 months depending on the complexity. Furnishings projects take approx 3 months for selections with the final install taking place within 6 months. While 6 months for furnishings might seem long, most projects require custom upholstery etc and back ordered or out of stock pieces are to this day still common.
  • What is my role as the homeowner in the design process?
The best projects are a combination of clear communication and sitting back and letting us design your space. I want to hear all your thoughts before i get started, see your inspiration photos, and understand the way you and your family lives. With this information we are better able to make recommendations for what will best work for you. For those that like to be a little more hands on, don't be discouraged, there are plenty of opportunities to get involved. Whether it be a trip to look at stone slabs or an exercise in what sofa has the perfect fit, our goal is to make the process fun and hands on!
